Irwin named Sea View League Co-MVP!
SAN
JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA, June ---
At an annual awards banquet, Coach Westling honored
the 2005 golf team by recognizing players who excelled on the golf
course and who excelled in the classroom. Kevin Irwin
was named as winner of the Kings Point Cup trophy as the team's
MVP. Kevin, Ryan Oriza, and Kellen Tyler were
named to the Sea View League 1st team, and Andrew Mahnke
was named all-league second team. Ryan Oriza also
earned the award as the Most Improved Varsity Player. Eric
Irwin was named Rookie of the Year on Varsity.
Scholar
athletes maintain a grade point of 3.8 or better, and Andrew
Mahnke, Kevin Irwin, Conor Moore and Kellen
Tyler all earned the award.
Neil
Anderson was named Outstanding JV Golfer for 2005, and Brandon
Gorman was awarded the Coaches Award. [See

CHINO, CA,
May 10 --- The
Wolverines tied for third in the CIF south coast divisional
tournament at El Prado Creek GC. Unfortunately, only the top two
teams advance -- Aliso was a mere three strokes off the pace. As
small consolation, the team beat out Foothill by one stoke
and Dana Hills by two strokes! The top teams finished as
follows:

Wolverines and Coach Westling, on a record-breaking season! A season that saw
the Wolverines win 19 consecutive matches - the only team in
Orange County history to accomplish that feat!
OCEANSIDE, CA,
May 3 --- Kevin
Irwin and Ryan Oriza each finished in the top five at
League Finals at San Luis Rey and advanced to CIF
individuals. Kevin missed medallist honors by only two
strokes. The top five finishers were:

LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, April 28 --- Ryan
Oriza fired a 2-under-par 34 for medallist honors, and the
Wolverines clinched the Sea View League title as they defeated
Laguna Hills 185 - 212. The 185 total was the lowest of the
year for Aliso and a school record on their home course, El Niguel Country
Club! The team advances to League Finals, that begin next Tuesday.
IRVINE, CA, April
26 --- Kevin
Irwin, Andrew Mahnke and Kellen Tyler each shot par 36's at
Oak Creek to lead the Wolverines to their 20th win of the season,
defeating Irvine High School 184-223. If they defeat Laguna Hills
Thursday, they win the Sea View League outright!
TUSTIN, CA, April
21 --- Foothill's
home course proved to be too difficult for the Wolverines as the
varsity lost their first match of the year, 195-186. Kellen
Tyler was co-medallist with a one-under par 35. Aliso still
holds the lead in the Sea View League, and only needs to defeat
Irvine and Laguna Hills to win the league title!
NEWPORT
BEACH, CA, April 19 --- Spring
break failed to stop the ANHS Boys Varsity momentum as they
defeated Newport Beach at Big Canyon CC 197-204 and extended
their unbelievable season record to 19-0! Shane
Lyznicki -- a sophomore making his fourth appearance on varsity
this season -- was
medallist with a par 36. Kevin Irwin recorded a 37. NH's loss narrows the battle for
Sea View League title to two teams - Aliso and Foothill.
LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, April 7 --- Drawing
strength from Kevin Irwin's one-under par 35 (medallist),
the boys easily defeated Trabuco Hills 192-233 at El Niguel CC to
extend their incredible season record to 18-0..
LAGUNA
NIGUEL CA, April 6 --- In
a crucial Sea-View League showdown, the Wolverines narrowly
defeated rival Foothill High School 201-204 to solidify first
place and also extend their season record to 17 - 0! Scores
ballooned with windy conditions on the El Niguel course.
Freshman Eric Irwin and Ryan Oriza were low
scorers for Aliso Niguel with a pair of 39's, followed by Kevin
Irwin at 40, Andrew Mahnke with a 41 and Kellen
Tyler came in with 42 (see
OCR story).
PALOS
VERDES, CA, April 5 --- The
Wolverines defeated Penninsula for the second time in two weeks --
this match played at Palos
Verdes Golf Club. Total score for 5 low golfers was 190-196.
Sophomore Tom Richeson was
co-medallist with a one-under-par 35 - his best of the season.
LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, March 31 --- Back
at home at El Niguel, the varsity had little trouble with Irvine,
winning their 5th league match and 15th overall - 209-259. Kevin
Irwin was medallist with 38.
IRVINE, CA, March
29 --- The ANHS
varsity added another notch to their competitive season, defeating
Woodbridge 190-200 at Rancho San Joaquin. Ryan Oriza
and sophomore Tom Richeson earned co-medallist honors with a pair of
37's. Seniors Kevin Irwin and Kellen Tyler were
close behind with 38's. According to Coach Westling, this is
the first time ANHS has ever beaten Woodbridge at Rancho San
Joaquin! The Wolverines are now 14-0 on the year!
SAN
CLEMENTE, CA, March 28 --- The
winds and scores soared on the Pacifica course on a blustery
day. When it was over, ANHS came away with a narrow
four-stroke win - 219-223 over San Clemente High School. Kellen
Tyler was medallist with a 39. The Wolverines remain
undefeated on the season, with a perfect record
of 13-0.
LAGUNA
WOODS, CA, March 24 --- Another
squeaker - but another win! The varsity defeated Laguna
Hills 186-189, to extend their league record to 3-0. Andrew
Mahnke fired a 2-under par 34 for medallist honors, Kevin Irwin shot 36 and
Ryan
Oriza shot 38.

NIGUEL, CA, March 23 --- The
Wolverines took advantage of their home course and defeated
Peninsula High School 200-221 in a non-league match. Andrew
Mahnke was low scorer with 39; Kevin Irwin, Conor
Moore, and Kellen Tyler each shot 40.

NIGUEL, CA, March 22 --- Make
it ten and counting! Kevin Irwin (37) and Andrew
Mahnke (37) led the varsity to a 193-208 win at El Niguel CC
(see photo left) over Newport Harbor on a cold and wet day. Ryan
Oriza shot 38.
LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, March 17 --- WHEW!!
The varsity opened Sea View League play by dodging a major bullet,
defeating the Woodbridge warriors 204-205! Kevin Irwin led
the team with a 38, while Andrew Mahnke shot 39.
RANCHO
SANTA MARGARITA, CA, March 10 --- The Varsity made it 8
straight victories with a good outing at Dove Canyon Country
Club! Sophomore Tom Richeson led the Wolverines with
a one-over 37, and the team defeated Trabuco Hills High School
195-206. Kevin Irwin, Ryan Oriza and Kellen
Tyler each shot 39.
LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, March 8 --- In a super-tight three-way match,
the Wolverines emerged with two victories in pre-league play
Tuesday. They defeated both Corona del Mar and San Clemente
by identical scores of 202-204. Kevin Irwin paced
ANHS on El Niguel with a 38. Andrew Mahnke shot 39 and Kellen
Tyler recorded a 41.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, March 7 --- The Wolverines made it 5 - 0 on the
young season as they defeated Laguna Beach on the Aliso VIejo golf
course. Andrew Mahnke fired a 3-under par 33 to lead the team.
Kellen Tyler was also under par with a 35, and Conor
Moore fired a 37.
LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, March 4 --- Kevin Irwin and Ryan Oriza
each fired 37's at El NIguel Country Club to lead the varsity to
their third straight win. Andrew Mahnke and Tom Richeson
were right behind with a pari of 38's.
NEWPORT
BEACH, CA, March 3 --- Kevin Irwin led the Wolverines past
Corona del Mar at the Newport Beach Country Club. Kevin
fired a 34 for medallist honors. Kellen Tyler was 2nd
low for the Wolverines with a 37.
SAN
JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA, March 2 --- In their first stroke play
match of the year, the Wolverines easily defeated Capistrano
Valley 188-216 on the Marbella CC course. Kevin Irwin
led the Wolverines with a one-over-par 36 - a round that included
4 birdies. Ryan Oriza
and freshman Eric Irwin each fired 37's, and Andrew
Mahnke shot 38.
IRVINE,
CA, March 1 --- Aliso Niguel entered two teams in a
season-opening best-ball tournament at Strawberry Farms. Competing
against Northwood, El Toro, Corona del Mar and Laguna Hills, they
finished first (Ryan Oriza, Eric Irwin, Tom Richeson) and
third (Andrew Mahnke, Kellen Tyler, Kevin Irwin). Way to
start the season, Wolverines!

JV
defeats Beckman - - April 26 - Conor Moore led the JV to an
easy victory at Tustin Ranch, defeating Beckman 206-262.
Moore shot a fine 38.
JV
falls to Foothill - - April 19 - Despite a scintillating 36 by Johnny
Clary, the JV lost to Foothill at Riverview, 189-177. On
April 7th the JV's lost to Foothill at home by a score of
195-226. Kevin Athaide and Chris Bridge were
low scorers for Aliso with a pair of 39's.

Doubles up on San Clemente - - Shane
Lyznicki' 38 was good enough to earn medallist honors on the
Creek course at Aliso Viejo, and the Junior Varsity defeated San
Clemente 208-211.

bests San Clemente - - Andrew Lowes and Shane
Lyznicki were co-medallists with a pair of 41's to lead ANHS JV
to a 215-240 win at San Clemente Municipal on March 29th.

the Wolverines with a 43, but Newport Harbor got the better of the
match played at the Costa Mesa GC, 201-215. Matt Heath
and Kevin Yu each recorded 45's.

Freshman Andrew Lowes birdied 6 of the 9 holes on Aliso
Viejo's Ridge course and shot a school record 31! The JV
team
easily defeated Laguna Beach 189-240. Shane Lyznicki was
second low with a 36.

Defeats San Clemente - In a non-league match, the JV defeated
San Clemente 204-251. Both teams played without sophomores, who
were taking the HS Exit Exam. Aliso's freshman Eric Irwin
filled in and earned medallist honors with 37 at San Clemente
Municipal.

Defeats Capo Valley - Matt Heath and Shane Lyznicki earned
medallist honors at the Aliso Viejo Golf Club with a pair of 38's, and the Junior
Varsity easily defeated Capo Valley 202-259. The Wolverine
JV's are now 3-1 on the season.

Loses to CdM -- CdM turned the tables on the Wolverines,
defeating ANHS 202-209 at the Costa Mesa GC. Conor Moore and
Neil Anderson each shot 38's. Matt Heath was 3rd
low for Aliso with a 42.

Defeats CdM -- Neil Anderson paced the Junior Varsity with a
39 and they narrowly defeated Corona del Mar 206-211 at Aliso
Viejo GC March 4th. Kevin Yu shot 40 and Kevin
Athaide 41 for the Wolverines.

JV defeated Capistrano Valley in an early-season match 207-262.
