Finish 2nd in SVL!
2004
Awards Banquet. Varsity and Junior Varsity Athletes on
the 2004 Girls Golf Team were honored at a banquet held January
13th. Michelle Benninghoven was awarded the Kings
Point Cup Trophy for producing the low stroke average and she
was also awarded the Team MVP award by Coach Wayne Westling.
Benninghoven
was also named to the first team, Sea View League All-League.
Carrie Lee and Stephanie Kim were named to the
second team All-League.
Scholar
Athletes Stephanie Kim, Carrie Lee and Bernice
Macaya were honored for maintaining a grade point in excess of
3.8. Stephanie was also awarded the "Coaches" Award,
and Carrie was named "Most Improved Varsity Player"
of the year. Stephanie and Carrie were also co-captains for
the 2004 season. Connie Gonzales was named Rookie of
the Year.
Junior
Varsity Coach Don Munsell handed out JV awards that included: JV
MVP - Elaine Ahn, Coaches Award - Emily Doyle, JV
scholar athletes (GPA 3.2 or higher) - Christina Park,
Emily Doyle, Elaine Ahn and Morgan Mahnke. Click

ANHS
Principal Dr. Charles Salter attended the festivities, where Coach
Westling complimented both teams on an outstanding season,
highlighted by a second-place finish in Sea View League
(with no seniors on the team!), smashing the team scoring
record for nine holes (198), a record low score by an
individual (a 32 by Michelle Benninghoven), and a hole
in one by Christina Park! More

CHINO, CA, November
5 --- Aliso Viejo shot 470 in the 18-hole team CIF tournament
at El Prado Country Club, to finish 11th out of 19 teams. Carrie Lee led the way with
86, Michelle Benninghoven and Connie Gonzales each
shot 93, Stephanie Kim 98, and Nari Sohn 100.
This is the final match of the season for the Wolverines, who had
a terrific season, setting several school records in the process,
and advancing to CIF for the first time in several years. Congratulations girls!
SAN
JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA, November 2--- Carrie Lee led the
Wolverines by shooting 88-84--172 to finish in a 3-way tie for
fourth place in League Finals! Michelle Benninghoven
and Stephanie Kim finished with 183 and 184 respectively,
good for 10th and 11th place. Connie Gonzalez shot
187, followed by Nari Sohn's 197 and Angela Lee's
198. Newport Harbor junior Natalie Draganza was medalist
with 147. She and Grace Park (157) will represent the Sea
View League at CIF for the third consecutive year.
SAN
JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA, November 1--- ANHS placed all six players
in the League Finals Tuesday for the first time in league
history! Only the top 18 of the 36 golfers advance to
Tuesday's final round. Carrie Lee is 5th in the
league after 18 holes. By comparing scores in the front nine,
the Wolverines easily defeated Irvine to secure 2nd
place in the Sea View League! Foothill HS, who has four
graduating seniors, finished first in the league. Foothill,
Aliso Niguel, and Newport Harbor will advance to CIF
Friday.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, October 28--- Battling the tricky Creek Course, the
Wolverines narrowly defeated Laguna HIlls 240-244. Stephanie
Kim (45), Connie Gonzales (47) and Carrie Lee
(48) led the team to their sixth league victory.
To finish
second in the Sea View League, they need to defeat Irvine.
That match to be determined
by the first nine holes of League Finals. League Finals
starts Monday at San Juan Hills - all 36 players play 18 holes
Monday. The top 18 players then play another 18 holes on
Tuesday.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, October 21--- Wolverine title hopes were dashed
when Foothill defeated ANHS 214-220 on the Ridge course.
This is the third league match the girls have lost by 6 shots or
fewer this season. Michelle Benninghoven and Angela
Lee led the team with 39 and 41 respectively.
NEWPORT
BEACH, CA, October 19--- The Big Canyon golf course is always
a challenge, but on this rain- and wind-swept day scores
ballooned. When the raindrops ended, ANHS was four shots
behind Newport Harbor (247-243). Nari Sohn led the
Wolverines with a 44.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, October 14--- Firing
a new school record of 198, the Wolverines defeated Woodbridge on
the Valley Course, 198-206! Michelle Benninghoven
was medalist for the third straight match shooting a par 36.
Stephanie Kim shot 39, Angela Lee fired a
personal-best 40, Carrie Lee shot 41, and Connie
Gonzales also shot a personal-best 42 to lead the Wolverines.
LAGUNA
HILLS, CA, October 12--- The Wolverines extended their league
record to 4-1 by defeating Laguna Hills High School on their home
course at Laguna Woods 228-240. Michelle Benninghoven was
medalist again, firing a 41. Nari Sohn also shot a
very solid 42.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, October 7--- Defeating Irvine at home (Ridge at AVGC), the Wolverines improved their league record to 3
and 1. Low scorers for ANHS were Michelle Benninghoven
(medalist with a 42), Nari Sohn (44) and Stephanie Kim (46).
ANHS is second in the Sea View League behind Foothill, who is now
4-0 after defeating Woodbridge (2-2) at San Joaquin.
SANTA
ANA, CA, October 5--- The Wolverines fell four shots short of
defeating Foothill High School on their home course, losing
231-235 on the River View Golf Course. Carrie Lee of
ANHS was co-medalist with at 44. Michelle Benninghoven
and Stephanie Kim shot 45 and 46, respectively.
Foothill has now won 20 straight league matches and will be tough
to unseat as Sea View League defending champion.

VIEJO, CA, October 4--- In a non-league match, the Wolverines
defeated Laguna Beach 215-283 on the AVGC Valley course. Michelle
Beninghoven was medalist with a par 36 and Angela
Lee shot 42 to lead the team.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, September 30--- Winning their second league match
of the week, the Wolverines defeated Newport Harbor 201-214 on
their home course (Valley Course at Aliso Viejo GC). In the
process, they established a new
school record for low score - 201! Carrie Lee
shot a personal-best 38, matched by Michelle Beninghoven's 38 to lead
ANHS. Nari Sohn also shot a personal-best 40, and
Angela Lee shot 41.
IRVINE, CA, September
28--- The Wolverines opened League play with a bang by
defeating Woodbridge 240-242
at San Joaquin. According to Coach Wayne Westling, this is
the first time the Aliso Niguel girls' varsity or boys' varsity
teams have ever
beaten Woodbridge at San Joaquin since joining the Sea View League
in 2000! The low five scores contributing to the win were Michelle Benninghoven - 46, Carrie
Lee - 48, Angela Lee - 48, Connie Gonzales - 48,
and Stephanie Kim - 50.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, September 23--- The girls' golf team shot a total
of 206 on the Valley course at Aliso Viejo Golf Club - a school
record! The previous best score was 208. Michelle
Benninghoven was red hot, firing a personal best 32 that
included four birdies (holes 2,3,4 and 6) and five pars!
Benninghoven's 32 - the lowest score ever shot in competition by
ANHS - also set a 9-hole course record for girls' golf!
Other
scores included Carrie Lee with a 41 (also a personal
competition best), Stephanie Kim - 43, Angela Lee - 45 and Connie
Gonzales - 45. Although ANHS lost the match to SC by five
strokes, it was a moral victory for Coach Westling's team
considering San Clemente had been beating most teams this spring
by 15-25 shots. In two previous meetings, San Clemente had
beaten ANHS by a total of 66 strokes!
NEWPORT
BEACH, CA, September 22--- Santa Ana conditions continued
Wednesday, and the Wolverines play improved only slightly, losing
to Corona del Mar 219-247. Michelle Beninghoven was low
scorer for ANHS, shooting 43. Nari Sohn shot a 49.
LAGUNA
NIGUEL, CA, September 21--- Scores soared on a blustery day on
the demanding Monarch Beach course. Highly-ranked San
Clemente defeated ANHS 228-266. Stephanie Kim and Michelle
Benninghoven were low scorers for ANHS with a pair of 50's.
SAN
CLEMENTE, CA, September 14 --- In a three-way pre-season
match with two highly-ranked opponents, the Wolverines finished
third behind San Clemente High School and Peninsula. Michelle
Benninghoven was low for ANHS, shooting a sizzling 39 on the
Talega Golf Course. Angela Lee shot a 44.
ALISO
VIEJO, CA, September 13 --- In their first match of the
season, the Wolverines defeated Trabuco Hills on the Creek course
at Aliso Viejo Golf Course. Carrie Lee led ANHS with
a 43. Michelle Benninghoven and Nari
Sohn each shot 45.
IRVINE,
CA, September 9, 2004 --- The
2004 girls' golf season got underway Thursday, September 9th,
with a pre-season tournament at Strawberry
Farms. One of 19 teams, ANHS entered five players in the
18-hole event. Michelle Benninghoven led the team with an 88
and Bernice Macaya shot 92. Other scores included Carrie Lee
(97), Stephanie Kim (102), and Angela Lee (104).

Varsity wins first match. Led by Elaine Ahn (46),
Nikki Stewart (47) and Emily Doyle (48), the Junior
Varsity defeated Laguna Beach at "Ben Brown's" Aliso
Creek course on 10/6/04.
Christina
Park (left) became only the fourth ANHS golfer to fire a hole
in one! Christina holed her tee-shot on the Lake Forest
Golf Course.
