Meet the Coaches

Wayne Westling, Head Golf Coach

Wayne was raised in Whittier, CA and graduated from St. Paul HS where he played numerous sports.  He graduated for the University of California, Irvine in 1972.  He earned a Master’s Degree in Computers from USIU.

Wayne taught 3 years of elementary school in Fountain Valley then moved to Niguel Hills Junior High for 15 years and has been at Aliso Niguel since it opened.  Wayne has taught P.E., Math, Computer Aided Design, Computer Applications, CECA and is the Physical Education Department Chair.  He is, also, the Head Varsity Coach for both the Girls & Boys Golf Teams and the Surf Team.  He resides in Laguna Niguel with his wife, Terry, who teaches 1st Grade in Mission Viejo at Del Lago.  His oldest daughter, Marisa, graduated from USF and resides in New York City.  His youngest daughter, Jacqueline is a freshmen at UCI.

Donn Munsell, Assistant Girl's Golf Coach

Donn was named assistant girl's golf coach for the 2004 season.  A PE teacher and coach for 24 years, Donn has been at ANHS since it opened. He also currently helps coach the ANHS varsity softball team.  Prior to ANHS, he coached golf, varsity baseball, football, and softball. He is married with two grown boys, ages 23 and 24. Hobbies included golf and baseball.

Mike Middlebrook, Assistant Boy's Golf Coach

Mike is a native of Melbourne, Australia.  He first played golf at age 7!  He graduated from Mission Viejo HS in 1987, where he played both football and golf.

He earned his B.S. from CSU Long Beach and his Master's from CSU San Bernardino.  Mike  started his coaching career at CVHS and and has served as Athletic Director of Aliso Niguel High School since 1994. He has been coaching golf since 1996.  Mike is married to Stacy Middlebrook, who teaches social science at ANHS, and they live in Mission Viejo.

Robby Schmitz, Assistant Boy's Golf Coach

Robbie attended North Torrance H.S., lettering Varsity in
football, basketball and baseball. He was selected All-CIF in football.  He then went to Northern Arizona University graduating with a B.S.degree in Physical Education and Health.  Later he earned his Masters degree from Azusa Pacific University in Physical Education.


Robbie has been a teacher and coach in the C.U.S.D. for 31 years, during
which he has coached football, basketball, tennis, track and wrestling at the
Varsity level.  Robbie also spent 10 years teaching and coaching at Saddleback
Community College.  Robbie has coached both the girls and boys golf teams with coach Westling for the past 15 years and continues teaching in the physical education department. His beautiful wife Betsy taught at Capistrano Valley H.S. for 18 years and now teaches French and Spanish at San Juan Hills High School. Son Cody is 16 years old and attends San Juan Hills High. They all reside with their two Corgis Yogi and Bennie in beautiful Dana Point.

Jason Turney, Assistant Girl's Golf Coach

In entering his 2nd year of assisting the ANHS Girl’s Golf Team, Coach Turney is pleased to be able to help the team and other coaches in any way he can.  He has been teaching in the Capistrano School District for the last 7 years and is in his 3rd year as a Special Education Teacher with Aliso Niguel High School.  Coach Turney also coaches boys baseball in the spring for ANHS and currently lives in Ladera Ranch with his wife Heidi, three year old daughter Rachel, and six month old son Christopher.

Paul Biggs, Assistant Boy's Golf Coach

Coach Biggs has taught English at Aliso for 11 years (Advanced Placement English Literature and English II).  He has also coached football, basketball and baseball here at the school.  In addition to his coaching and teaching responsibilities, Mr. Biggs runs our Link Crew program and currently serves as the school's WASC self-study coordinator.  Golf has become a passion for him and he is thrilled to be a part of the ANHS golf program.  He especially looks forward to helping the frosh-soph players handle the mental aspects of this wonderful game.  "Physical ability is certainly important," he acknowledges, "but nowadays, every school has talented players.  The ones who really excel combine their physical skills with concepts like course management and self-control."  Coach Biggs lives quite happily in Rancho Santa Margarita with his wife Jessica and their 100 lb.
